Friends: This is most likely old news to you guitar veterans but --maybe not to all. Recently, my nice Martin began to 'buzz' and ring badly. Rick and Mick both looked at it and we speculated: bad strings, neck adjustment, bad frets, etc. At Rick/Mick's suggestion, I took it to Tim (the talented guitar technician at Rosen in the Heights). His diagnosis:: The thing got dried out over the winter with low humidity in the house. This caused the front to shrink into a concave ( bowl shape) allowing the strings to get too close to the frets(my own description). He says my case is borderline but caught in time. The solution is to introduce moisture into the guitar(several methods available), and always keep it in the case when not in use. He thinks it will 'pop back out' in a couple of weeks and will need little or no further adjustment. The moral of this story. Particularly in the dry winter season, keep some moisture in the guitar and keep it in the case-away from any vents etc. I will be doing this with all my guitars from now own, and will report how it works out. Let me know if you want more on the hydration methiods he suggests. FYI, DON
