Jon Durham was here this week from South Carolina and it took me seeing 3 shows to get around to hearing most of the songs on his two cd's.
The Whitewater Tavern show was a mildly messed up event(surprise)- when we walked in there was a girl (CourtneyFairchild)already at the bar, wanting to talk to a manager or owner. She'd been told that she was playing and would get the door for the night. I told Mary Ann that Jon Durham was here to play and she says"thats not whose supposed to be here tonight", I said "sure he is, that's his poster there on the front door saying Thur. night". So Courtney and Jon get down to meeting each other and seeing what they can do and they Immediatly work it out. And when they turned to start putting Courtneys stuff on stage, here comes somes guys and gals carrying drums, saxophone, two acoustic guitars, bongo's, bass guitar and amp......So who are you guys,e veryone else asks? WE're the Rena Renn(I think) Band. Folks they were a 5 piece band. Now wheres the guy doing the booking,...So, then some guy named TJ comes in and apoligizes for the screw up, but of course it's not his fault ....He says goose hired him to start doing the booking, and I gues the first lesson he learned then was, well, lets see the calendar and what dates you've already got booked....It was on the bar, he's never looked at it, cuz it wasn't his...he also admitted that he new that there might be a possibility that he knew he was overbooking the night, but he figured it was n't his problem.....Courtney drove from Dallas for the Door, Jon from South Carolina, and the Rena

cont.... the Rena REnn band said they would play for free cuz theey were from the neighborhood. They were pretty good. Anyway Courtney played 1st, then everyone assumed Jon was next and then the band, but noo....Tj decided that the band should play 2nd, well after a 40 min setup, 1hr playing and 30+ mins clearing off, it was pretty dang late, and most of the Thur crowd was leaving to get up in the morning. But it was all worth it. Courtneys songs were mostly I guess lebian oriented, or girl love songs, but she was good enough, the REna Renn band was fun also, but jon definately was the real deal, his songs are pretty good, and when he does covers they are what I like. We got out of there around 1am, and the ones who stuck it out were satisfied, he sold 4 cds, and a couple of shirts.
Next night ,Parrot Beach, smaller than desired crowd but more centered on what or who they came to see, sev people had seen him on Good Morning ARkansas and several had heard him on KABF, and all of those people had a good time and were very glad they came. Vanessa treated him much better, her place is getting funkier all the time and she now has liquor, and her letters from Jimmy Buffett orginization advising her to change the name from Parrot Head Cafe are mounted on the wall, she still loves him.
Anyway, He's a guy like most of us who, just a few years ago decided he was gonna do his musical muse full time, he got an 8 track digital recorder and has already made two cds, that are good quality for home-made.
He will be around next fall again and I'll warn you of where he's gonna be. later Guys N gals,
