Too many squarenecks in the closet.  This is a solid starter or backup instrument in great shape.  Took it out today and gave it a new set of strings, a touch of lemon oil on the fretboard and a quick polish.  Ready to play at the next Pickoid jam.

  • Laminate body all-around with a sunburst top.
  • Sound-well for that traditional Dobro sound.
  • Stock stamped cone has been replaced with a quality Quarterman spun cone.
  • Spider bridge has been leveled and polished.
  • Bridge has been replaced with ebony capped maple.
  • Includes a nice Featherlite case.

Instrument Discussions / advice/suggestions requested

Don,

A D-28 is a certainly a sweet guitar.  Big A has a D-35 and I believe a D-28.  You might noodle on one of his one Wednesday evening to see how it 'fits'.

Have you considered a 00 or 000 body guitar?  To me these seem to be more 'finger-style' oriented than the drednaughts.  If you're getting the itch for a new axe my suggestion is to make the rounds and play em all - usually one will 'speak' to you.

Just one pickoids opinion...

Beth and I kick back under Bill's awning.  Did I mention it can get chilly?

Why is it my g-run sounds nothing like Uwe's even on his guitar?

Beth helps me admire Uwe Kruger's Gallagher.

Beth, Jessica and I will be there!

We've attended several years in a row now and not once have we been dissappointed.  It's unlike any festival we've ever attended.  It has the perfect mix of old and new with an international twist to make it interesting.  Artists are easily approachable and there are several venders there to give you GAS (guitar aquistion syndrome).   B)

Charlie,

Are you guys still pickin on the river?  I noticed the calendar item has gone away.  I doubt I will be able to make it but I wanted to make sure everyone else knew about it.

Noticed and added to the calendar.

By the way, the calendar sure is growing.  If you know of an acoustic event in the Central Arkansas area be sure to add it!

If you have delete/edit access they will show up as icons to the right side of the screen.  I've deleted the one that was on the 21st.

As a side note, there's a quick way to tell what's coming up on the calendar.  Check out the bottom of the the main forum page (were all the topic catagories are listed).  There's a panel at the bottom of the page titled "Board Statistics". Along with other information is listed "Calendar Events within the next 14 days".  This is automatically updated with any event that falls within the next 14 calendar days.  If there's nothing on the calendar in that time frame the area will not be listed.  :)

Charlie,

Be sure to add it to the calendar!  Click on the calendar link at the top of this screen.  Once the page has loaded look for a link at the bottom left that says "Add new event".  The rest should be pretty self explanatory.

And while you're out there please add dates for Rackensack!

Instrument Discussions / Stuff I Saw at Guitar Center

I've played that guitar as well.  Knew the moment I picked it up it wasn't an ordinary axe.   B)

I seem to remember the build quality having just enough character to tell it was hand made, which I like.  Nothing against CNC mind you, just that it wasn't a cookie cutter guitar.

A few weeks back when I was in Mt. View I noodled on a Bourgeois Slope D.  Now I've been wanting to get my hands on one of these for quite a while.  I spent a pretty good bit of time looking it over and subjecting the music shop guy to what was probably the uptenth thousand g-run that had been played from that stool.  The guitar had mahogany back/sides with a spruce top - generic stuff but masterfully built.  Fit and finish was incrediable, the thing was built like a tank and built gracefully I might add.  Sound wise it was nice, really nice, but nothing that spoke to me.  Could have been the strings (worn from thousands of g-runs no doubt) or it could have been the setup, who knows.

Ouch, that's actually from a scale drawing of the squareneck reso I built.  I have yet to put the tuners on.  I hope I didn't drill from that drawing!
