Festivals, Concerts and Jam Sessions / Jam School at Little Rock Jams
« on: March 15, 2011, 08:35:53 AM »
Hey Pickoids ....

Wanted to let you know about a new class we have at Little Rock Jams called Jam School. We've designed the class to develop jam session skills for players at an intermediate level.

There are several different courses: Introduction to Jam Session (for players with little jam session experience) and stylistic courses where we cover rhythm and lead skills for Blues Jams, Rock Jams, Jazz Jams, Funk/Vamp Jams and Pop/Country Jams.

Each course will wrap up with a dress rehearsal full jam session at the studio and then a benefit jam where you can invite friends/loved ones out to watch you unleash your tastiest licks. (Canned food drive for admission to benefite the Arkansas Food Bank).

We're kicking off the class with a workshop at the studio this weekend, 03/19/11 at 2:00 p.m. The workshop will be based around what we will do in the class. Feel free to come out and participate.

We are very excited about this class. If you are interested, give us a call at the studio 501-312-1800. Also, please pass the word along to anyone you know that would be interested in the class.

Thanks!!!

Pickers Resource / Re: Jam Rules - General and Basic
« on: December 11, 2008, 10:56:16 AM »
While our jams are more rock/blues/jazz oriented, a rule that holds true is keep your mind in the game. Watch the leader for changes, bridges, ending the tune, etc. Don't close your eyes and go into your own world, you'll miss out on the fun (or be the only one still playing after the tune ends). Jams are all about the interaction between musicians. That's what counts.

Also, no one paid money to buy a ticket, right? If it is a relaxed environment with friends, push yourself when it comes to your solo. Licks are fun and you know they'll sound good, but push yourself and try to play something new. The worse that could happen is that your group could ride you about that "new age jazz" you tried to play. The best scenario is that you surprise yourself with some really tasty lines.
